Kansas Gets Nearly Perfect Week Suitable for Fieldwork



For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 48% very short, 36% short, 16% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 51% very short, 37% short, 12% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Winter wheat planted was 15%, near 12% last year, and ahead of 10% for the five-year average.

Corn condition rated 27% very poor, 27% poor, 25% fair, 19% good, and 2% excellent. Corn dented was 90%, near 92% last year and 93% average. Mature was 61%, near 60% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 27%, ahead of 19% last year and 17% average.

Soybean condition rated 22% very poor, 26% poor, 30% fair, 21% good, and 1% excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 95%, equal to last year, and near 96% average. Dropping leaves was 40%, ahead of 34% both last year and average. Harvested was 2%, near 1% average.

Sorghum condition rated 22% very poor, 31% poor, 31% fair, 15% good, and 1% excellent. Sorghum headed was 95%, behind 100% last year, and near 99% average. Coloring was 73%, behind 88% last year and 85% average. Mature was 20%, behind 35% last year and 25% average. Harvested was 2%, near 4% last year and 3% average.

Cotton condition rated 7% very poor, 37% poor, 39% fair, 17% good, and 0% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 55%, ahead of 45% last year, and well ahead of 35% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 44% very poor, 30% poor, 18% fair, 8% good, and 0% excellent.
