Applications are now being accepted for the Kansas Leopold Conservation Award, an annual honor that recognizes outstanding conservation efforts on working lands across the state. The award highlights land stewardship that protects soil health, improves water quality, and supports wildlife habitat while maintaining productive agricultural operations.
The award is presented by a partnership that includes the Ranchland Trust of Kansas, Sand County Foundation, American Farmland Trust, Kansas Association of Conservation Districts, and Kansas Farm Bureau. It is named in honor of Aldo Leopold, a respected conservation leader known for promoting responsible land management.
Each year, the Kansas Leopold Conservation Award recognizes landowners who demonstrate exceptional care for natural resources through thoughtful and innovative practices. The recipient receives a $10,000 cash award in recognition of their conservation leadership and commitment to long-term land sustainability.
“RTK is a proud supporter of the Leopold Conservation Award in Kansas,” said Barth Crouch, past RTK board chairman. “It is our honor and privilege to help recognize Kansas ranchers and farmers who go above and beyond the standard in stewardship of the natural resources they manage daily.”
Landowners may nominate themselves, or applications may be submitted on their behalf. This approach encourages broad participation and allows communities to recognize individuals who are making a positive environmental impact. The application process is designed to highlight conservation achievements and long-term stewardship goals.
