For the week ending December 1, 2024, Kansas reported 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The report highlighted field crop progress, moisture conditions, and pasture ratings as the winter season begins.

Moisture Supplies

Topsoil moisture levels in Kansas were rated:

5% very short

16% short

74% adequate

5% surplus

Subsoil moisture supplies showed similar ratings:

7% very short

26% short

65% adequate

2% surplus

Field Crops Report

Winter wheat condition was assessed as:

4% very poor

9% poor

31% fair

47% good

9% excellent

The cotton harvest was at 79%, slightly behind last year’s 89%, but equal to the five-year average. The sunflower harvest was near completion, reaching 95%, close to last year’s 96% and the five-year average of 97%.

Pasture and Range Conditions 

Pasture and range conditions in Kansas were rated:

10% very poor

21% poor

46% fair

22% good

1% excellent
