In Kansas, the agricultural sector is off to a promising start in 2024, as reported by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Farmers enjoyed six days of good weather for fieldwork in the week ending March 17, 2024.
Soil moisture levels are looking positive, with topsoil moisture at 8% very short, 33% short, 55% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture also shows a healthy distribution, being 10% very short, 36% short, 53% adequate, and 1% surplus.
The spotlight of this report falls on the winter wheat, showing a strong start to the season. The condition of the wheat is largely favorable, with ratings of 4% very poor, 8% poor, 33% fair, 47% good, and 8% excellent. This data reflects the resilience and hard work of Kansas farmers, who are optimistic about the crop's prospects as they move deeper into the year.
Kansas's agricultural community continues to monitor these developments closely, hoping for a year of good harvests and continued good weather.
