This week, prominent members of the Kansas Corn Growers Association (KCGA) are actively participating in critical meetings hosted by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) in Louisville, Kentucky.
These meetings are pivotal as they gather corn leaders from across the United States to deliberate on the future trajectory of the association and influence the broader agricultural policy landscape.
The KCGA delegation, including President J.D. Hanna from Silver Lake, Vice-President Matt Splitter from Lyons, and CEO Josh Roe, are at the forefront of these discussions. Their involvement is particularly significant during the two-day state presidents meeting, where they collaborate with NCGA Corn Board members and senior staff to review and establish policy priorities for the upcoming years.
Key agenda items for the Kansas delegation include advocating for increased ethanol usage, influencing tax policy, and supporting the passage of a comprehensive farm bill.
Josh Roe, CEO of Kansas Corn, emphasized the grassroots nature of the NCGA, highlighting that it is driven by corn farmers who guide the organization not just through elected positions but also via action teams.
These teams play a crucial role in shaping the association's direction through both in-person and virtual meetings held throughout the year.
Kansas is well-represented across several NCGA action teams, with six local leaders contributing their expertise in areas critical to corn growers.
These teams include Risk Management, Research and New Uses, Production & Sustainability, and Communication and Education, among others. Participation in these teams allows Kansas leaders to have a direct impact on national policies affecting corn production and sustainability.
The influence of Kansas within the NCGA is further underscored by the roles of KCGA members like Brett Grauerholz and Brent Rogers, who serve on both the Risk Management Action Team and the Corn PAC Committee.
Their contributions are instrumental in navigating the complexities of agricultural policy and ensuring that the interests of Kansas corn growers are well-represented at the national level.
Celebrating its 50th year, the Kansas Corn Growers Association continues to advocate vigorously for its members, tackling legislative and regulatory issues while promoting Kansas corn and its derivatives.
