KSU's new dairy barn gets $250k boost

By Scout Nelson

The Livestock Meat Industry Council (LMIC) has committed $250,000 to Kansas State University (KSU) for the construction of a state-of-the-art dairy barn.

Announced on February 14, this funding over the next five years marks a significant step towards improving dairy industry education, research, and Extension capabilities at KSU's Animal Science and Industry Department.

LMIC President Bill Miller highlighted the project's potential to bolster KSU's role in producing skilled dairy industry professionals and advancing dairy science research. The new facility is expected to serve as a cornerstone for teaching, research, and Extension missions, aligning with the broader goals of supporting the dairy industry's future needs.

In related news, Galen and Lori Fink of Randolph, Kan., have been named the 2024 Stockman of the Year, a prestigious accolade recognizing their contributions to the beef genetics sector. Their operation, Fink Beef Genetics, has been at the forefront of embryo implantation and offers a wide range of bulls to meet diverse breeding requirements.

KSU's Cattlemen’s Day is set for March 1, continuing its tradition of providing valuable insights into the livestock industry. The event will feature educational exhibits, a commercial trade show, and discussions on the latest industry trends. The day will conclude with the 47th annual Legacy Sale, showcasing top-quality bulls and females for the cattle industry.

These developments underscore KSU's commitment to advancing agricultural education and industry partnership, further solidifying its position as a leader in agricultural research and extension services.
