Farmers, food businesses, and buyers from across Kansas and Missouri gathered on March 11 at Kansas State University Olathe for a Meet the Buyers event that was designed to strengthen marketplace connections and expand business opportunities.
The event provided a platform for direct interaction between producers and buyers. Participants took part in one-on-one meetings and guided introductions. These activities helped build trust and open doors for new business partnerships.
"Many of our local producers have said they want an opportunity to level up and expand their food businesses,” said Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Mike Beam. “They need to enter new markets. This event allowed farmers to showcase the passion and love that goes into the products they make.”
Educational sessions were also a key part of the event. These sessions focused on preparing farmers and food businesses for wholesale success. Topics included understanding buyer expectations, meeting product standards, and building strong long-term relationships. These insights helped participants learn how to grow their businesses in competitive markets.
The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Ag Marketing team organized the event in partnership with groups across Kansas and Missouri. Their goal was to highlight the importance of strong connections in agriculture and support regional food system growth.
The event also showed how building relationships between producers and buyers plays an important role in sustaining agriculture. Strong partnerships help farmers reach new customers and improve business stability.
Programs such as the From the Land of Kansas initiative continue to support local producers. These programs promote agricultural products grown and produced within the state. They also help connect consumers with local food sources and strengthen the agricultural economy.
Overall, the Meet the Buyers event provides valuable learning, networking, and business opportunities. It supported farmers and food businesses in expanding their reach, improving market access, and building a stronger future for agriculture in the region.
