The Beef Promotion Operating Committee has approved checkoff funding of about 38 million dollars for fiscal year 2026, which begins on October 1. This funding will support a wide range of programs aimed at promoting beef, advancing research, and strengthening education and communication throughout the beef industry. Final approval is subject to review by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The committee is made up of 20 members, including representatives from the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and the Federation of State Beef Councils. Their plan includes funding 13 authorization requests focused on key areas such as beef promotion, research, consumer and industry information, foreign marketing, and producer communications.
A major part of the budget is dedicated to research projects designed to enhance beef safety before and after harvest, improve nutrition and product quality, and study sustainability and consumer perceptions about beef. These efforts are intended to ensure that beef remains a trusted and high-quality protein source for consumers.
Education also plays an important role in the plan. Funding will help provide accurate information about the beef industry to primary and secondary schools by working with curriculum directors nationwide.
Other educational efforts will include outreach to food, culinary, nutrition, and health leaders, as well as media and public relations campaigns to share up-to-date beef industry facts.
International marketing is another key focus. Funds will support education and outreach efforts in 13 regions representing more than 90 countries around the world. These activities are designed to strengthen demand for U.S. beef and highlight its quality and safety to global buyers.
With these strategic investments, the committee aims to boost consumer confidence, promote the benefits of beef, and maintain strong connections throughout the supply chain, ensuring continued growth and success for the industry.
