A new initiative is now open for applications, aiming to enhance nutrition education for young children. In collaboration with the Kansas Foundation of Agriculture in the Classroom, the Kansas Department of Agriculture has launched "Our Earliest Eaters: Bringing the Farm to Kansas Licensed Early Child Care Facilities." This program is designed to teach children about locally grown produce while supporting childcare providers with educational resources.
Selected early childcare facilities will receive a specialized curriculum focused on Kansas specialty crops. Additionally, they will be eligible for reimbursements when purchasing locally sourced fruits and vegetables. The program aims to promote healthier eating habits and increase awareness of where food comes from at an early age.
A total of 50 childcare facilities will be chosen through a competitive application process. Those selected will receive agricultural education materials, activity kits, and resources at no cost.
Applications must be submitted to the Kansas Department of Agriculture by 5:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 28. This initiative provides an excellent opportunity for childcare providers to incorporate hands-on learning while fostering better nutrition among young children.
