Empowering farms - Whole farm health workshops 2024

By Scout Nelson

The agricultural community of Kansas is set to experience an enriching series of workshops aimed at promoting sustainable farming and enhancing family wellness.

The Whole Farm Health 2024 event, spanning three dates in February and March, is dedicated to farmers and their families looking to transition to soil health practices, plan for farm succession, save costs using cover crops, and support holistic well-being.

Hosted at Worden Cornerstone Church in Baldwin City, KS, each session from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, brings together leading experts and farmers to share knowledge and strategies.

February 20th features Dale Strickler discussing the transition to soil health and drought resilience, emphasizing the profitability and sustainability of regenerative agriculture. Following, a farmer panel will explore overcoming challenges in adopting these practices.

On February 27th, Ashlee Westerhold and William Buessing focus on farm and ranch transition planning, and the benefits of covering crops for profits and sustainability, respectively. These talks are designed to equip farming families with the tools needed for successful generational transitions and to enhance farm profitability through innovative crop management.

March 5th shifts focus on wellness, with Jim Persinger and Elizabeth Heilman addressing mental health in farming communities and the role of human ecology in supporting holistic health. This session is crucial for fostering resilience and preventing suicide among farmers and ranchers.

Whole Farm Health 2024 is a pivotal event for the Kansas farming community, offering practical solutions, networking opportunities, and support systems to navigate the complexities of modern agriculture and family life.
