Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture recognized exceptional alumni and faculty during the Celebrate Ag Weekend, honouring those who demonstrated leadership, commitment, and distinction.
This year’s 2024 Distinguished Alumnus Award was presented to Robert Vander Zanden, whose mentorship has impacted countless lives.
Over his 30-year career in the food industry, Vander Zanden held leadership roles in major companies such as Keebler, Nabisco, and Kraft Foods. His dedication to mentoring and guiding others sets him apart and makes him a deserving recipient.
Garrett Lister received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. Lister, who earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural economics from Kansas State, is the lead cattle risk management professional for Innovative Livestock Services. Known for his expertise in cattle markets and price risk management, Lister actively engages with the community and supports K-State students through guest speaking and mentorship.
Jason Bergtold, professor of agricultural economics, was awarded the David Mugler Outstanding Teaching Award. Bergtold’s contributions include impactful research in conservation economics and land use, helping Kansas farmers improve sustainability. His work in curriculum development, particularly AGEC 501: Data Analysis and Optimization, has greatly enhanced the agricultural economics program at Kansas State.
These awards reflect Kansas State University’s commitment to nurturing leadership, promoting mentorship, and advancing agricultural education.
