Kansas agriculture and biofuel industries are advocating for a $5 million tax credit to support the sale of E15 fuel, a blend of gasoline containing 15% ethanol. The request comes from corn, sorghum, and ethanol producers, aiming to expand the availability of renewable fuels across the state.
The soybean and biodiesel industries have also joined the initiative, requesting a matching incentive to support the growth of biodiesel production and sales. Their goal is to ensure equal support for bio-based fuels, strengthening Kansas’ renewable energy sector.
Supporters argue that biofuels contribute to energy independence and provide economic benefits to rural communities by increasing demand for locally grown crops. They also highlight environmental advantages, as biofuels reduce carbon emissions compared to traditional petroleum-based fuels.
If approved, the tax credit would provide financial relief to retailers, encouraging more widespread E15 and biodiesel sales across Kansas. Advocates believe this measure will help sustain long-term growth in the renewable fuels industry while benefiting consumers with expanded fuel choices.
State lawmakers are expected to review the proposal in upcoming legislative sessions. Industry leaders remain optimistic that the economic and environmental benefits of biofuels will drive support for the tax credit initiative.
