The Kansas Beef Council (KBC) successfully helped nearly 300 producers across the state earn or renew their Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification through a series of in-person fall trainings held in Ellsworth, Holton, and Ottawa.
Led by Kansas State University Extension Veterinarian A.J. Tarpoff, each training session focused on essential cattle management topics, including proper handling, animal health care, accurate record keeping, and transportation practices. The goal was to remind participants that BQA is not just a certification—it represents a continuous commitment to doing things the right way every day.
While many attendees joined to renew their certification, others came to gain new insights and practical skills. The sessions emphasized how new research and improved farm practices can advance both animal welfare and beef quality. This dedication to learning ensures that Kansas producers continue delivering high-quality beef while building consumer trust and maintaining industry standards.
“It was great to see so many beef producers come and participate in the BQA sessions,” Tarpoff said. “These continuing education meetings highlight the dedication folks have to the cattle they raise and the beef products they produce.”
The Kansas Beef Council noted that the success of these sessions reflects producers’ strong commitment to maintaining excellence in animal care and food production. These educational opportunities are funded in part by the beef checkoff program, which supports producer education, consumer engagement, and research to expand global beef demand.
KBC expressed gratitude to all participants, host locations, and Tarpoff for his leadership in promoting best management practices. Through ongoing education, Kansas cattlemen and women continue setting the benchmark for beef quality nationwide.
