Kansas crop progress report for 2023 growing season

The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service has released the final weekly Crop Progress and Condition report for the 2023 growing season in Kansas. For the week ending December 10th, there were 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork.

Topsoil and Subsoil Moisture:

  • Topsoil moisture supplies were 25% very short, 32% short, 40% adequate, and 3% surplus.
  • Subsoil moisture supplies were 30% very short, 39% short, 30% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Field Crops:

  • Winter wheat condition was 10% very poor, 15% poor, 36% fair, 34% good, and 5% excellent.
  • Cotton harvest was nearly complete at 95%, falling slightly short of last year's 99% but exceeding the five-year average of 81%.

Pasture and Range:

  • Pasture and range conditions were 17% very poor, 29% poor, 39% fair, and 15% good, with no areas classified as excellent.
