Kansas Crops Show Mixed Growth Trends

Kansas continues to experience suitable conditions for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service report for the week ending July 13, 2025. Farmers had 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated at 5% very short, 20% short, 68% adequate, and 7% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies stood at 7% very short, 21% short, 67% adequate, and 5% surplus.

The winter wheat harvest was nearly complete at 93%, slightly below last year’s 96%, but ahead of the five-year average of 88%.

Corn conditions are rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 25% fair, 51% good, and 18% excellent. Corn silking reached 51%, slightly behind last year’s 57%, but near the 47% average. Corn dough stage was 11%, close to 14% last year and above the 9% average.

Soybean conditions showed 1% very poor, 4% poor, 26% fair, 58% good, and 11% excellent. Soybean planting was 96%, near 100% last year and the five-year average. Emergence was at 91%, behind the 97% reported last year and average. Blooming stood at 38%, close to last year’s 36% and the 37% average. Pods were setting on 6%, near the 7% from both last year and the average.

Sorghum condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 32% fair, 49% good, and 15% excellent. Sorghum heading reached 5%, falling behind last year’s 12% and the 10% average.

Cotton condition was rated 0% very poor, 13% poor, 43% fair, 33% good, and 11% excellent. Cotton squaring stood at 45%, well below 72% last year and 68% on average. Bolls were set at 6%, trailing 33% last year and behind the 13% average.

Sunflower planting was nearly complete at 96%, like last year’s 95% and the 94% average.

Pasture and range conditions were rated at 3% very poor, 10% poor, 28% fair, 49% good, and 10% excellent.
