The final Kansas Wheat Harvest Report for 2025 highlights the completion of the harvest across the state. According to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, 93 percent of the Kansas wheat crop is harvested, just behind last year’s 96 percent but ahead of the five-year average of 88 percent.
Overall yields ranged from slightly below average to excellent, depending on region and weather. Many areas reported strong test weights and good protein levels. However, rain during harvest affected grain quality in some places, causing yield losses and occasional field abandonment.
A grain marketing group managing 55 locations across eight Kansas regions noted that rain, while beneficial, delayed harvest efforts and impacted wheat quality. “We’ve been two days from done for the past 20 days,” said their executive. “Overall, it has been a good harvest, meeting or exceeding expectations from a yield standpoint.”
In the southern plains counties, wheat quality was strong with test weights averaging over 60 pounds per bushel and protein levels near 11.75 percent. Yields ranged from average to above average.
Southwest counties saw excellent yields, with test weights averaging 60.5 pounds and protein nearly 11 percent.
In south central Kansas, rain reduced test weights to about 58 pounds per bushel. Yields varied, with some areas affected by wheat streak mosaic virus and early drought.
Central Kansas reported test weights around 57.5 pounds and protein at 10.9 percent, with good yields in many locations.
Northern regions showed exceptional yields with average test weights of 57.7 pounds and protein at 12 percent, though some fields faced abandonment due to rain.
Other areas like Dickinson, northeast Kansas, and Labette reported mixed results with some quality challenges from rain.
The 2025 harvest summary reflects the combined efforts of Kansas wheat industry groups dedicated to promoting crop progress and industry insights.
