The Beef Industry Long Range Plan task force revealed its new five-year plan for 2026-2030 last week during the Cattle Industry Summer Business Meeting in San Diego, California. The plan, developed with input from industry leaders and stakeholders, sets clear goals to maintain the beef sector's competitiveness in a changing market.
The task force, made up of key industry representatives from various segments—cow-calf, seedstock, cattle feeding, dairy, animal health, and livestock markets—worked to identify areas of opportunity for beef over the next five years. Their findings were distilled into six interconnected goals aimed at addressing critical issues within the industry.
These goals include ensuring policy and supply chain viability, promoting sustainable industry practices, engaging the public and building consumer confidence, fostering innovation and research, enhancing stakeholder engagement, and focusing on animal health and food safety. Each goal is paired with specific strategies to achieve success and will guide actions for the next five years.
Joe Lowe, a task force member and Kentucky rancher, emphasized the importance of interconnected goals: “All six goals work together, so progress toward one goal helps move others forward,” he said. For instance, strong advocacy can lead to more research, which supports sustainability and builds trust in the industry.
The plan initiatives are designed to align the entire supply chain and hold all stakeholders accountable for achieving these common objectives. As the beef industry faces evolving challenges, this comprehensive plan provides a unified approach for maintaining a strong and competitive future.
