The Kansas Department of Agriculture has announced the launch of the 2026 Kansas Custom Rates Survey. The survey is designed to collect information on rates paid for agricultural custom work across the state and will remain open through March 31, 2026.
The survey is administered by the Kansas State University Land Use Survey Office. It gathers data on charges for custom harvesting, land preparation, haying, feed preparation, and machinery rental. Both individuals who provide custom services and those who hire them are encouraged to participate.
Accurate and up-to-date pricing information plays an important role in supporting sustainable agricultural operations. The survey helps ensure that pricing reflects current market conditions, allowing agricultural businesses to make informed decisions when entering service agreements. Completing the survey takes approximately 15 minutes.
“We view the Kansas Custom Rates Survey as a very valuable tool for farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses to access as they consider contracts and agriculture service arrangements. KDA works to provide support and assistance to help make Kansas agriculture more successful, and we are pleased to partner with K-State to publish this biennial survey.”
Participation in the survey is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential, ensuring that all responses remain private. Those interested can complete the online survey by visiting https://www.tinyurl.com/custom26.
For individuals who are unable to complete the survey online, alternative participation options are available. Participants may request a written survey or complete the survey over the telephone by contacting the Land Use Survey Office at LTsoodle@ksu.edu or reaching out to the Kansas Department of Agriculture at Heather.C.Johnson@ks.gov or by phone at 785-564-6726.
The Kansas Custom Rates Survey is a collaborative effort between the KDA Division of Agriculture Marketing and the Land Use Survey Office within the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University. The collected data will be published to support fair pricing, transparency, and informed decision-making across Kansas for agriculture.
