Kansas, also known as the Sunflower State, has set a record. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announced on Tuesday, Aug. 15 a staggering $5.46 billion in agricultural exports for 2022 - a number not seen in decades. When compared to the $3.8 billion recorded in 2019, this surge underlines significant growth within the state's farming sector.
Leading the state's agricultural exports is red meat, contributing an impressive 38.9%, or $2.1 billion. Close followers are cereals like corn, wheat, and sorghum with 24.5% and oilseed, predominantly soybeans, at 12.5%.
Kelly expressed excitement about breaking records, boosting the economy, and strengthening the agricultural industry. The Governor and Agriculture Secretary Mike Beam are focused on forging stronger ties with international trading allies to ensure Kansas remains at the forefront of global food production
When it comes to trade partners, Mexico leads the list by importing a whopping $2.17 billion in 2022. Japan follows with $781 million, and Canada claims the third spot at $594 million.
Secretary Beam attended the Tri-National Accord in Saskatoon, Canada, to strengthen relationships with trade partners and discuss pertinent matters, extending international relations beyond trade numbers.
Kansas's significant role in global agriculture is highlighted by its ongoing growth in agricultural exports, showcasing the industry's commitment to international markets.
