The Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) will host two regional animal health workshops this summer. The first will take place on Tuesday, July 15, in Marion, and the second on Wednesday, August 13, in Seneca.
Each workshop features two separate sessions. The afternoon session, scheduled from 2:30 to 4:30, is intended for emergency management professionals and county officials. It will focus on the county’s role in responding to animal disease outbreaks, livestock truck rollover situations, carcass disposal, and sheltering procedures.
The evening session, running from 5:30 to 7:30, is designed for veterinarians and livestock producers. Key topics will include animal disease traceability, secure food supply planning, and proper disease response actions.
A free networking dinner will be held between the two sessions and is open to all attendees. The workshops and dinner are free of charge, but participants must register in advance.
“KDA encourages livestock owners, veterinarians and county officials to attend to learn more about how animal disease response plans may affect them.”
These workshops offer an important opportunity for community members to understand their roles in protecting Kansas’s animal health. By attending, stakeholders will gain insights into practical strategies for managing disease threats and minimizing disruptions to the food supply.
With rising concerns about animal disease preparedness and biosecurity, these sessions aim to enhance local response capabilities and foster collaboration between professionals. The workshops will also provide time to connect and share experiences with others involved in animal health and emergency response.
To participate, registration is required. Interested individuals may register by calling (785) 564-6608 or visiting the KDA website.
These summer workshops reflect KDA’s commitment to strengthening animal disease preparedness across Kansas communities.
