The Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) will host an animal health regional workshop on July 15, 2025, at the Marion County Lake Hall in Marion, Kansas. This event is part of KDA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen livestock disease preparedness and emergency response across the state.
The workshop is divided into two focused sessions. The afternoon session will run from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is designed for emergency management professionals and county officials. Topics will include the county’s role in responding to livestock disease outbreaks, managing livestock truck rollovers, and ensuring proper sheltering and carcass disposal procedures.
The evening session, scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will cater to veterinarians and livestock producers. This session will cover essential topics such as animal disease traceability, secure food supply plans, and effective disease response protocols.
Between sessions, attendees are invited to a free networking dinner open to all participants. This provides an opportunity for community members and professionals to share insights and build connections.
“KDA encourages livestock owners, veterinarians and county officials to attend to learn more about how animal disease response plans may affect them.”
A second workshop with the same structure and content is scheduled for August 13 in Seneca, Kansas.
Both the workshops and the networking dinner are free to attend, but registration is required. Participants can register online at agriculture.ks.gov/AnimalHealthOutreach or by calling 785-564-6608.
This initiative by the KDA Division of Animal Health underscores the importance of collaborative planning and preparedness to protect Kansas’s livestock industry from potential disease threats.
