KDA Promotes Kansas Beef Genetics Worldwide

This summer, Kansas became a hotspot for international trade in the agriculture sector. Spearheading this initiative was the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA). Their focus is Beef cattle genetics and livestock equipment. By fostering relationships with international stakeholders, the KDA aims to create new marketing avenues for Kansas products and services overseas.

KDA's international trade director emphasizes the significance of personal connections in cattle marketing. Local cattlemen have a prime opportunity to build these connections, marketing not only genetics but also livestock equipment.

Last week of August, six Chilean cattlemen visited Kansas to explore purebred beef cattle genetics. They visited several companies, including Ohlde Cattle Company and Fink Beef Genetics, and extended their visit to the American Angus Association in Missouri. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Beam acknowledged the efforts of the trade mission participants in refining cattle breeds using enhanced genetics.

Earlier, in June 2023, a trade team from Argentina also toured Kansas. They spent days visiting various establishments, from No-Bull Enterprises to the renowned Kansas State University. The aim is to find beef genetics suitable for varied environments back in Argentina.

The KDA is eyeing Mexico. Coming October, they're planning an outbound mission to Guadalajara. This mission, set to focus on U.S. beef cattle genetics, will serve as a networking and promotional venture. Interested producers are encouraged to apply, with details available on the KDA's official website.

KDA's primary mission is to support agricultural aspects, including domestic and international marketing. Recent trade missions to South America and Mexico are part of a larger initiative supported by USLGE and USDA Market Access Program funding.
