Key strategies-2025 swine profit conference

By Scout Nelson

Kansas State University has announced its 35th Swine Profitability Conference, slated for February 4, 2025, at the Stanley Stout Center in Manhattan, Kansas. This pivotal event aims to support pork producers with expert insights and strategies for enhancing profitability within the industry.

The conference will be spearheaded by Mike Tokach, a distinguished professor and swine extension specialist at K-State’s Department of Animal Sciences and Industry. Tokach emphasized that the conference would address critical issues impacting profitability in swine production, from broad market trends to specific on-farm decision-making processes.

An impressive lineup of speakers has been assembled to cover a range of topics pertinent to the swine industry. Glynn Tonsor, professor in agricultural economics, will discuss current trends in pork demand and the overall profitability landscape of the pork industry. Lisa Tokach, a veterinarian at Abilene Animal Hospital, will share ten habits that characterize highly productive pork producers, providing actionable advice for attendees.

Additionally, Brian Burke, president of John Stewart and Associates, will delve into macroeconomic factors that are shaping global and U.S. grain and oilseed markets in 2025, crucial for strategic planning in feed procurement. Bradley Wolter, from Windy Hill Meadows and former CEO of The Maschhoffs, will explore key competencies necessary for the success of live-hog production systems.

Highlighting a commitment to sustainability and legacy within the industry, Michele Walter and family from Keesecker Ag and 3MK Pork LLC will discuss strategies for building a generational legacy in the pork business.

The conference promises to be a comprehensive resource for Kansas swine producers, offering valuable networking opportunities, expert presentations, and practical takeaways designed to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.

Registration for the event is open with an early bird fee of $25 per participant until January 24, after which registration at the door will be $50. For more details and to register, visit KSUSwine.org.
