New resource for farm and food businesses

New resource for farm and food businesses

By Scout Nelson

The Heartland Regional Food Business Center (HRFBC) is a new resource for farm and food businesses in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. The HRFBC will provide technical assistance, coordination, and capacity building to help farm and food businesses succeed.

The HRFBC is a partnership of 14 key partners and more than a dozen collaborating partners. Kansas Rural Center is one of the key partners and is responsible for providing farm business navigation services.

The HRFBC is funded by a $25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The grant will support a variety of activities, including:

  • Business training and counseling
  • Planning and mentorship
  • Help accessing financing and other support
  • Connection to other needed businesses, such as distributors
  • Connection to local, state, and national resources
  • Grant funding to support farm and food businesses in making next-step investments

The HRFBC's goal is to connect and strengthen small, mid-size, and diverse farm and food businesses, as well as local and regional food sector initiatives. The HRFBC aims to grow the farm and food enterprises, markets, and community connections needed to make local food an everyday, easy choice. The HRFBC is a valuable resource for farm and food businesses in the Heartland region. The HRFBC can help businesses of all sizes and stages to grow and thrive.
