Scholarships Boost Kansas Students in Agriculture

Scholarships Boost Kansas Students in Agriculture

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF) has announced that two students have been awarded the 2025 Kansas CattleWomen (KCW) Scholarships. Each scholarship provides $1,000 to help students begin their college studies.

Addison Green Russell of Downs will attend Kansas State University this fall, where she plans to study global food systems leadership and public health. She is preparing for a future that combines food, health, and agriculture.

Haylee Lanham of Kincaid will attend Fort Scott Community College as a freshman, where she will study agribusiness. Her focus highlights the importance of developing strong business skills for the future of agriculture.

The scholarships are funded through individual donations and proceeds from a live auction item sold during the annual Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) Convention. This support demonstrates the commitment of the Kansas Livestock Foundation and Kansas CattleWomen to investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must meet specific requirements. Applicants must have graduated from a Kansas high school, plan to attend an in-state community college or senior college, and pursue a degree in agriculture, food safety, dietetics, or a related field. These requirements ensure that the awards directly support young people preparing for careers that benefit Kansas agriculture and its related industries.

The Kansas CattleWomen scholarship program highlights the importance of education in shaping the future of the livestock and agricultural sectors. By providing financial assistance, the program helps students reduce barriers to higher education and encourages them to remain engaged in fields that support food production, safety, and sustainability.

The recognition of these students reflects not only their personal achievements but also the broader commitment of Kansas organizations to strengthening agricultural education, ensuring future leadership, and building a resilient agricultural economy.
