AMVAC Gains Four Crop Protection Brands

AMVAC Gains Four Crop Protection Brands

By Jamie Martin

AMVAC Chemical Corporation is taking another step toward growth with the acquisition of four crop protection brands from Syngenta Crop Protection.

The purchase includes the U.S. registrations and trademarks for Caparol, Evik, Prime+, and Agri-Flex. American Vanguard Corporation, AMVAC's parent company, expects the products to contribute more than $7 million in annual net sales once the acquisition process is completed.

Each product serves a specific role in crop production. Caparol helps growers manage broadleaf weeds and grasses in crops such as cotton, peas, and vegetables. Evik is used mainly in sugarcane and pineapple production. Prime+ supports tobacco growers by helping control unwanted plant suckers, while Agri-Flex is used as an insecticide in specialty crops, particularly Florida citrus.

The transaction is being completed as an asset purchase. AMVAC will acquire ownership of the U.S. product registrations and trademarks associated with the brands. Financial details beyond the projected annual sales contribution have not been disclosed.

Company leaders said the products are respected within their markets and will complement AMVAC's existing offerings. The company intends to ensure consistent product availability and customer service throughout the ownership transition.

The acquisition is expected to support AMVAC's broader business goals. Company officials have previously outlined plans to achieve $100 million in new product sales by 2030 and reach $600 million in annualized sales by the end of 2028.

Adding established products offers several advantages. The brands already have regulatory approvals, market recognition, and existing customer relationships. This allows the company to expand more quickly compared to launching entirely new products through lengthy development and registration processes.

Across the crop protection industry, portfolio adjustments have become increasingly common. Major agricultural companies regularly evaluate product performance and strategic priorities. Some products are retained for growth, while others are sold to organizations that see new opportunities in those markets.

Syngenta's decision to sell the brands reflects this trend. The products serve important markets but are relatively specialized compared with the company's larger global portfolio. Divesting them enables a greater focus on broader business priorities.

For AMVAC, the acquisition creates opportunities to expand its reach into multiple crop segments and geographic regions. The products serve growers in southern production areas, tobacco operations, specialty crop markets, and Florida for citrus production.

The deal also helps diversify the company's overall business by adding products with established revenue streams. Such diversification can help strengthen market presence while supporting long-term growth objectives.

The acquisition remains subject to completion of the regulatory registration transfer process with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state regulators. Once the necessary approvals are finalized, ownership of the brands will officially transfer to AMVAC.

The company believes the acquisition will strengthen its agricultural portfolio, enhance value for customers, and create additional growth opportunities in key crop protection markets across the United States.
