Ethanol Can Strengthen U.S. Farm Economy Again

Ethanol Can Strengthen U.S. Farm Economy Again

By Jamie Martin

Ethanol has been a game changer for U.S. agriculture, driving rural prosperity and energy independence. At the National Ethanol Conference, Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) President Geoff Cooper stressed the need for stronger ethanol policies to help farmers facing economic struggles.

Cooper noted how ethanol has evolved from the days of gasohol to the establishment of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in 2005. “The success of ethanol, driven by the RFS, has had a profound impact on American consumers and farmers alike, helping lower pump prices, enhance energy independence, and bolster rural communities,” he stated.

Despite its benefits, declining farm income has raised concerns about the agricultural economy. Cooper urged the new administration to prioritize renewable fuel policies, including RFS expansion, revising emissions standards, and securing stable biofuel tax credits.

RFA remains hopeful for industry growth, particularly with legislative efforts to expand E15 access. These measures can provide farmers with more market stability and contribute to a stronger agricultural sector.

“By strengthening policies that support renewable fuels, we not only enhance energy security but also strengthen the rural communities that are the backbone of America’s economy,” Cooper added. By reinforcing ethanol policies, the industry can once again play a key role in securing a prosperous future for farmers and rural America.
