The Kansas Corn Growers Association recently expressed gratitude to the entire Kansas congressional delegation for their support of legislation that would enable year-round sales of E15 ethanol fuel. This move is aimed at removing seasonal restrictions that currently limit the availability of E15 during the summer driving season, thus potentially lowering fuel costs and supporting agricultural stakeholders.
Josh Roe, the CEO of the Kansas Corn Growers Association, emphasized the significance of this legislative support, highlighting that it benefits not just consumers but also bolsters the Kansas economy. “This bill enjoys wide-ranging support across the corn, ethanol, and oil industries,” Roe noted, underscoring the collaborative effort behind the initiative.
The bill, known as the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, has garnered bipartisan support, with introductions in both the Senate and the House. Notable cosponsors include Senators from Kansas as well as several representatives, reflecting a unified stance among the state’s legislators.
A key issue addressed by the legislation is an outdated federal rule that restricts E15 sales during the summer months, traditionally the peak time for driving in the U.S. If passed, the new law would ensure that consumers across the country could enjoy consistent access to E15, which is known for being a cleaner, higher octane, and more economically priced fuel option.
Roe also pointed out the ongoing efforts in Kansas to enhance E15 availability, with over 150 fuel stations across the state now offering this blend. The passage of this bill would eliminate the need for emergency waivers that are currently required to sell E15 during the summer months.
As the Kansas Corn Growers Association marks its 50th year, this legislative development represents a significant milestone in its advocacy efforts. The association continues to champion the interests of its members and promote the benefits of corn and ethanol products on a broader scale.
