For the week ending August 10, 2025, farmers had 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Topsoil moisture was reported at 6% very short, 20% short, 64% adequate, and 10% surplus. Subsoil moisture stood at 8% very short, 22% short, 62% adequate, and 8% surplus.
Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 9% poor, 27% fair, 42% good, and 19% excellent. Corn silking reached 90%, slightly behind last year’s 95% and just below the 93% five-year average.
Dough stage was at 68%, compared to 77% last year and near the 66% average. Dented corn was 22%, down from 29% a year ago but close to the 21% average.
Soybeans were rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 25% fair, 57% good, and 12% excellent. Blooming was at 79%, trailing both last year (85%) and the 84% average. Pods were set on 54%, matching last year and slightly below the 56% average.
Sorghum conditions stood at 2% very poor, 7% poor, 27% fair, 45% good, and 19% excellent. Heading was 55%, below 68% last year but near the 59% average. Coloring reached 15%, close to 19% last year and 11% average.
Cotton was rated 0% very poor, 9% poor, 43% fair, 34% good, and 14% excellent. Pasture and range conditions were 4% very poor, 9% poor, 24% fair, 52% good, and 11% excellent.
