Kansas Crop Progress - Weekly Update on Fieldwork and Conditions

The latest agricultural report for Kansas unveils a productive week, with 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork as per the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Topsoil moisture supplies varied across the state, with 27% very short, 36% short, 34% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture followed a similar trend, rating 33% very short, 40% short, 27% adequate, and no surplus reported.

Winter wheat showcased mixed conditions, with 18% very poor, 18% poor, 32% fair, 29% good, and 3% excellent. Notably, 91% of the winter wheat was planted, outpacing last year's 85% and near the five-year average of 87%. 70% of the crop has emerged, ahead of last year's 56% and the 65% average.

Corn harvest matched last year's pace at 89%, surpassing the 84% average. Soybean harvesting reached 80%, closely aligning with last year's 77% and significantly ahead of the 66% average.

Sorghum maturity hit 96%, consistent with both last year and the average, with 69% harvested—near last year's 66% and ahead of the 59% average.

Cotton conditions varied with 6% very poor, 18% poor, 39% fair, 34% good, and 3% excellent. The harvested cotton stood at 35%, lagging last year's 49% but ahead of the 18% average. Sunflower harvesting was at 74%, surpassing both last year's 62% and the 56% average.

Pasture and range conditions reported 25% very poor, 30% poor, 32% fair, 12% good, and 1% excellent.
