The Kansas Soybean Association (KSA) has officially announced the opening of its 2025 Soybean Yield and Value Contests. These contests invite soybean growers across Kansas to participate in a friendly competition designed to recognize outstanding yields and soybean quality.
The Yield Contest allows participants to compete across 18 districts determined by region, tillage method, and irrigation status. Each entry must consist of at least five contiguous acres verified by proper documentation. A non-relative witness, such as Kansas State Research and Extension personnel or another designee, must be present during harvest to confirm results. Contest rules also require official elevator-scale tickets, including moisture percentage and foreign matter, for entries to be considered.
The Value Contest analyzes soybean quality traits such as protein and oil content. Entries require a 20-ounce sample, which is evaluated by Ag Processing, Inc., to determine value. Both contests provide monetary awards for the top three finishers in each category, with district winners receiving $300, second place $200, and third place $100. Additional prizes include $1,000 for the overall dryland and irrigated winners and bonuses for breaking the existing record of 126.6 bushels per acre.
Dr. Sarah Lancaster, K-State Weed Extension Specialist and KSA board member, explained the value of the program: “This contest allows farmers to showcase the practices that maximize yield on their farm. To see how farmers manage challenges to have successful crops in conditions they can’t control is always impactful to see.”
This year, agricultural sciences company FMC has joined the Kansas Soybean Commission as a contest sponsor. “This contest is a great opportunity for us to support KSA and we see the value it brings farmers,” said FMC’s Brian Laverentz. “We love the comradery these contests bring and getting to recognize and honor farmers across the state.”
In addition to cash awards, winners in both contests have the chance to attend the 2026 Commodity Classic in San Antonio. All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt.
