Kansas State Announces Barry Flinchbaugh Center for Ag Policy

Kansas State University celebrated a significant move in agricultural growth during the annual Kansas Governor's Summit. They announced the Barry Flinchbaugh Center for Ag Policy. This center stands as a tribute to Barry Flinchbaugh's dedication of nearly 50 years to educating on policy. He's celebrated for teaching the Alternatives and Consequences policy model, which guides decision-makers in the agricultural sphere.

Richard Linton, K-State's president, expressed admiration for Barry. He highlighted that the center will display K-State's ongoing support for the state's farmers and ranchers. They aim to offer them effective and compromising solutions to their agricultural hurdles.

The center's vision encompasses more than just education. Working hand in hand with the K-State Office of Engagement, it seeks to actively involve students through lectures, research, and internships. A significant part of its mission is collaborating with agricultural stakeholders. Together, they hope to brainstorm innovative ways to tackle the challenges agriculture and rural areas face.

Linton emphasized the center's role in helping leaders realize agriculture's crucial position in national security. He believes the center will efficiently continue Barry's legacy, pushing forward our agricultural sectors.

Behind the creation of this center is a passionate group called the Flinchbaugh Legacy Keepers, comprising Flinchbaugh's former students. Jay Armstrong, the group's liaison to the university, highlighted that these students stand as Barry's living legacy. They envisioned this center as a beacon to continue enlightening the agricultural world.

This new center aligns with K-State's broader vision as a progressive land-grant university. It's also in harmony with K-State 105, a comprehensive plan to boost Kansas' economic growth. This plan envisions leveraging the K-State Research and Extension network to bring innovative solutions to every corner of Kansas.
