For the week ending August 17, 2025, farmers across the state experienced 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Topsoil moisture was reported as 7% very short, 23% short, 64% adequate, and 6% surplus. Subsoil moisture showed similar levels at 9% very short, 25% short, 60% adequate, and 6% surplus.
Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 10% poor, 27% fair, 44% good, and 16% excellent. Corn silking reached 95%, just below last year’s 99% and the five-year average of 97%. Doughing was at 78%, behind 87% last year but matching the average.
Dented corn stood at 37%, compared to 46% in 2024 and close to the 38% average. Mature corn was reported at 1%, behind last year’s 6% and near the 5% average.
Soybeans were rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 26% fair, 55% good, and 13% excellent. Blooming reached 87%, just shy of the 89% from last year and the average. Pod setting was at 69%, slightly above both last year’s 65% and the 67% average.
Sorghum condition was 4% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 44% good, and 16% excellent. Heading was 72%, coloring 19%, and mature 1%.
Cotton was rated 0% very poor, 10% poor, 37% fair, 35% good, and 18% excellent, with 91% setting bolls and 9% opening.
Pasture and range conditions stood at 4% very poor, 9% poor, 28% fair, 51% good, and 8% excellent.
