Kansas State University is now accepting applications for the 2025 Animal Sciences Leadership Academy. The program offers a unique opportunity for high school students in grades nine through twelve to gain hands-on experience in animal science and develop their leadership skills.
Hosted by the K-State Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI) and sponsored by the Livestock and Meat Industry Council (LMIC), this four-day academy is scheduled for June 11–14, 2025, in Manhattan, Kansas.
The academy includes interactive workshops, campus tours, and sessions with professors and industry professionals. These activities are designed to help students explore animal science careers and build leadership qualities essential for success in the livestock industry.
Only 20 students will be selected for this year’s session. Selected participants will stay in university housing with academy staff for the full duration of the program. The cost to attend is minimal—just a $50 reservation fee due only after acceptance. All other program expenses are generously covered by LMIC.
"Students will engage with faculty, tour research facilities, and work alongside leaders in the livestock industry," event organizers shared.
Applications are due by April 15 and are available online. Transportation to and from the university is the responsibility of the student. This competitive program is ideal for those passionate about animal agriculture and eager to grow as future leaders.
Through this experience, students will gain a deeper understanding of the livestock industry and make meaningful connections that could shape their future in agriculture. This academy reflects K-State’s commitment to supporting youth and building strong agricultural leadership for tomorrow.
