Kansas Beef Council representatives recently participated in a visit to Korea through the U.S. Meat Export Federation’s (USMEF) Heartland Team program. This initiative allows agricultural producers and industry leaders to experience firsthand how checkoff investments strengthen global markets for U.S. red meat.
Korea has become the largest value market for U.S. beef exports, adding approximately $100 per carcass to its total value. During the visit, the team explored how checkoff-funded marketing programs support education, promotion, and relationship-building with Korean importers and consumers.
The group met with USMEF Korea officials and observed the process of shipping, marketing, and preparing U.S. beef. They toured top foodservice and retail outlets, including Costco and E-Mart, and visited major importers such as Fresheasy, Frank Burger, and Highland Foods. These visits highlighted how strong trade relationships and consistent product quality drive continued success for U.S. beef in Korea.
Korean importers emphasized that the reliability, safety, and sustainability of U.S. beef are key reasons for their ongoing loyalty. U.S. beef remains a preferred protein among consumers due to its premium taste and quality assurance.
“This trip provided an important opportunity to see firsthand the marketing efforts that keep U.S. beef competitive abroad,” said a Kansas Beef Council representative. “It’s clear that checkoff investments play a vital role in maintaining global trust and driving demand.”
By supporting international outreach through USMEF, Kansas producers help expand market access, boost carcass value, and strengthen consumer confidence in U.S. beef worldwide. The Korea visit demonstrates how checkoff dollars continue to deliver measurable results for the industry.
