The 93rd annual Kansas Junior Livestock Show (KJLS) took place October 3–5 in Hutchinson, showcasing some of the best youth livestock exhibitors in Kansas.
Champions were named in both market and breeding divisions for cattle, swine, sheep, and goats, highlighting skill, dedication, and excellence in animal care and presentation.
In the market steer division, the grand champion was a crossbred steer weighing 1,449 pounds, followed by a 1,468-pound reserve crossbred.
The breeding heifer division saw a Limousin heifer take supreme honors, while an AOB heifer earned reserve supreme. In the bred-and-owned category, a Hereford heifer took top honors, with a Charolais following as reserve.
In the swine show, the grand champion market hog was a 241-pound dark crossbred, while the reserve title went to a 305-pound dark crossbred. The supreme breeding gilt emerged from the commercial division, and the reserve supreme was a Duroc entry. Among the bred-and-owned gilts, the top award went to a Light AOB, with a Berkshire gilt named reserve supreme.
The sheep show featured a 152-pound blackface lamb as grand champion and a 149-pound blackface lamb as reserve. The supreme breeding ewe, a Hampshire, led the breeding category, while the reserve supreme came from the commercial division. In the bred-and-owned category, a Dorset ewe claimed supreme honors, followed by a commercial ewe as reserve.
In the goat show, the grand champion market goat weighed 99 pounds, while the 94-pound reserve took second. The supreme commercial doe title went to an outstanding entry from the commercial class, with the reserve supreme also recognized for excellence.
Merck Animal Health served as the exclusive sponsor of the beef show, while Cargill supported the sheep and goat divisions. Other sponsors included Farm Credit Associations of Kansas, Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Department of Agriculture, KLA, and several agribusiness partners.
