Kansas Water Authority Meeting Announced

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Water Authority will hold an official public meeting in Topeka to review and discuss important water policy issues that affect communities, farms, and businesses across the state. The meeting will take place at the Docking State Office Building in the AdAstra Conference Room 350, located at 915 SW Harrison Street in Topeka. The session will begin at 1 p.m.

The Kansas Water Authority plays a key role in shaping water policy in the state. It is responsible for advising the Governor, the Kansas Legislature, and the Director of the Kansas Water Office on matters related to water use, conservation, and long-term planning. The Authority also serves as an advisory group for the Kansas Water Plan, which guides how water resources are protected and managed statewide.

Established in 1981, the Kansas Water Authority includes 13 voting members who are appointed by the Governor or legislative leadership. In addition to these members, state agency directors serve as ex-officio participants. Together, the group works to make sure that water policies and programs reflect the needs of all Kansans, including rural communities, agricultural operations, businesses, and cities.

Public meetings allow community members, organizations, and interested residents to stay informed about water management efforts. These meetings also provide transparency in how decisions are made and how policies are developed to support long-term water security in Kansas.

The Kansas Water Office encourages accessibility for all participants. Anyone who requires special accommodations due to a disability should notify the Kansas Water Office at 900 SW Jackson Street, Suite 404, Topeka, Kansas 66611-1249, or call (785) 296-3185 at least five working days before the meeting.

This meeting offers an opportunity for Kansans to learn more about water policy planning and understand how state leaders are working to protect and manage vital water resources for present and future generations.
