Kansas Winter Wheat Planted at 62 Percent

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 4 percent very short, 17 short, 68 adequate, and 11 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 4 percent very short, 16 short, 72 adequate, and 8 surplus.

Winter wheat planted was 62 percent, near 61 for both last year and the five-year average. Emerged was 37 percent, behind 42 last year, and equal to average.

Corn condition rated 4 percent very poor, 10 poor, 33 fair, 42 good, and 11 excellent. Corn mature was 93 percent, near 96 both last year and average. Harvested was 48 percent, behind 62 last year and 64 average.

Soybean condition rated 4 percent very poor, 9 poor, 31 fair, 47 good, and 9 excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 81 percent, behind 86 last year, and near 85 average. Harvested was 13 percent, near 16 last year, and behind 25 average.

Sorghum condition rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 29 fair, 52 good, and 9 excellent. Sorghum mature was 75 percent, near 78 last year and 77 average. Harvested was 17 percent, near 19 last year, and behind 25 average.

Cotton condition rated 2 percent very poor, 11 poor, 36 fair, 44 good, and 7 excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 84 percent, ahead of 76 last year and 69 average.

Sunflowers harvested was 17 percent, near 15 last year, and ahead of 12 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 7 poor, 27 fair, 55 good, and 9 excellent.
