Governor Laura Kelly joined Walmart and local leaders to celebrate the grand opening of Walmart’s first fully owned and operated case-ready beef facility in Olathe, Kansas. This modern facility is a major step forward in the state’s agriculture and food production sector.
The 300,000+ square-foot building represents a $257 million investment and will bring 667 new jobs to the Olathe region. Walmart’s facility is designed to improve the quality of Angus beef offered in its stores, while also enhancing transparency and efficiency throughout the supply chain.
“Kansas has long been at the forefront of the agriculture industry, and Walmart’s investment in Olathe is further driving our success,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “Through food production and supply chain innovations, we are proud to partner with Walmart to transform how we feed communities across our state and the region.”
This facility will process fresh beef into case-ready Angus cuts, packaging them for distribution to 600 Walmart stores across 14 states in the Midwest.
Olathe Mayor John Bacon noted the local impact, saying, “Walmart’s decision to open its new case-ready facility in Olathe isn’t just a business investment — it’s a vote of confidence in our community and our workforce.”
In addition to economic growth, Walmart also demonstrated community support by awarding grants to several local organizations:
- Kansas Special Olympics: $35,000
- Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City: $20,000
- Friends In Service of Heroes: $30,000
- Mayor Bacon’s Book Club: $5,000
These contributions highlight Walmart’s commitment to Olathe’s well-being, supporting programs in sports, youth development, veteran services, and literacy.
The new facility marks a significant milestone for both Walmart and Kansas agriculture.
