Kansas Ranch Events Highlight Cattle Topics

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) and Kansas State University (KSU) have announced the 2025 schedule for their Ranch Management Field Days. These events provide a valuable opportunity for producers to explore practical topics in ranching through ranch visits and expert presentations.

The first event will take place on August 21 in Wichita County, followed by a second field day on August 28 in Woodson County. Both field days will begin at 3:30 p.m., with educational programs and guided tours of cattle handling facilities.

The Wichita County field day will include discussions on the latest research in yield grading technology, helping producers better evaluate carcass quality and value. Attendees will also learn about bovine congestive heart failure, a rising concern in feedlot cattle, including its causes, risk factors, and prevention strategies.

At the Woodson County event, participants will explore topics affecting pasture health and livestock. Presentations will focus on the Asian longhorned tick, a pest linked to the transmission of Theileria orientalis—a disease that impacts cattle health and productivity. Another highlight will be demonstrations of how drones and other technologies can be used to manage and reduce noxious weeds in grazing areas.

Each event will include a presentation about the host ranch’s history and operations. Both field days will wrap up with a complimentary beef dinner for all attendees. Admission is free, and no registration is required.

The events are sponsored by the Farm Credit Associations of Kansas and Huvepharma, with more details to be posted as they become available.

These KLA/KSU Field Days offer hands-on learning, up-to-date research insights, and the chance to connect with fellow ranchers and agricultural experts. Attending these events can help producers strengthen their operations and improve cattle and land management.
