Kansas Grain and Hay Stocks Show Mixed Results

Kansas corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2021 totaled 486 million bushels, down 3% from 2020, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 200 million bushels are stored on farms, up 18% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 286 million bushels, are down 13% from last year.

Wheat stored in all positions totaled 340 million bushels, up 7% from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 10.5 million bushels are up 5% from 2020, and off-farm stocks of 329 million bushels are up 7% from last year.

Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 193 million bushels, up 19% from last year. On-farm stocks of 21.0 million bushels are up 50% and off farm holdings of 172 million bushels are up 16% from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 144 million bushels, up 2% from last year. On-farm stocks of 42.0 million bushels are up 14% from a year ago, and off-farm stocks, at 102 million bushels, are down 2% from 2020.

Oats off-farm stocks totaled 397,000 bushels, down 46% from 2020.

Hay stocks on Kansas farms totaled 5.00 million tons on December 1, 2021, unchanged from a year earlier.

Grain storage capacity in Kansas totaled 1.58 billion bushels, unchanged from December 1, 2020. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 380 million bushels of on-farm storage, unchanged from last year, and 1.20 billion bushels of off-farm storage, unchanged from 2020.
