Kansas Ag Connection - 11/17/2023

The Kansas Farm Bureau (KFB) is gearing up to celebrate its 105th annual meeting from December 2nd to 4th in Manhattan. Joe Newland, KFB's president, expresses his excitement about leading the event for the first time in his presidency. This meeting signifies a significant gathering for Kansas's largest general farm organization.

The event will kick off with the Foundations' Fundraiser, Cousin Eddie’s Christmas Party, on Saturday evening. This event, held at the Hilton Garden Inn, aims to benefit the End Hunger Campaign, starting at 6 p.m. following the doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday's agenda is packed with a variety of informational workshops, a trade show, and a silent auction. These workshops will cover vital topics such as water resources, disaster programs, membership engagement, mental health, and quick updates on various agricultural issues. Attendees can access a full list of the workshops at the KFB website.

The general session will be a platform for award presentations, including Friends of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and notable county Farm Bureaus. Moreover, the session will feature media awards and a keynote address by Emmy Award-winning storyteller Larry Hatteberg, focusing on his experiences with ordinary people highlighting broader societal issues.

The evening will continue with a banquet, recognizing Farm Families of the Year, Leadership KFB, Casten Fellows, and the Distinguished Service honoree.

Concluding the event on Monday, voting delegates will engage in pivotal policy debates for 2024 and conduct elections for key positions, including vice president, Women’s Leadership Committee chair, and board members from odd-numbered Farm Bureau districts.

The annual meeting in Kansas celebrates the state's agricultural heritage and aims to shape the future of farming. It brings together members, stakeholders, and enthusiasts to share ideas and honor those making significant contributions to the ag community.
