Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced a $90 million investment in 53 innovative agricultural projects through the Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) program.
This initiative, funded by President's Inflation Reduction Act, aims to develop new technologies and methods that enhance natural resource conservation on private lands, particularly focusing on climate change mitigation strategies like reducing livestock methane emissions.
The funds are being distributed among projects under two categories - $69.7 million for CIG On-Farm Trials and $20.2 million for CIG Classic projects.
These projects range from improving nutrient management in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to employing precision agriculture technologies on dairy farms to enhance grazing management and forage availability.
Secretary Vilsack emphasized the role of these grants in building resilience among farmers, improving their operations' sustainability, and contributing positively to the climate.
This funding is part of a broader effort under the Administration's Investing in America agenda, which includes significant allocations to bolster various USDA conservation programs.
The overarching goal is to integrate innovative solutions across the agricultural sector, fostering both environmental benefits and economic growth for farmers.
