Flint Hills Beef Fest Announces Contest Winners

The 2024 Flint Hills Beef Fest recently announced the winners of its feedlot and carcass contests, highlighting exceptional performance in livestock rearing and meat quality. The event recognized several branches for their achievements in these competitive categories.

In the overall gain segment, Sharps Creek Ranch steers from Cottonwood Falls excelled, gaining an impressive 3.47 lbs. per day from April 2024 to February 2025. Similarly, heifers from Spring Creek Ranch of Cassoday showed significant gains, with an average of 2.99 lbs. per day.

The feedlot contest saw Plum Creek Ranch steers from Neosho Rapids take the top spot with a remarkable daily gain of 4.86 lbs. Close behind were steers from Meats Farms Inc., achieving a daily gain of 4.82 lbs. The steer carcass contest was dominated by Meats Land & Cattle Co. of LeRoy, with Woodbury Farms from Quenemo securing the second place.

In the heifer division of the feedlot contest, the pen owned by residents of Neosho Rapids gained an average of 4.09 lbs. per day, leading the category. Ryan Louia and Parker Meats from LeRoy also showed strong performance with their entries, averaging a daily gain of 4.00 lbs., securing second place. The heifer carcass contest was won by Loomis Ranch from Council Grove, with runners-up being the heifers from Wilsey.

These contests are part of the Flint Hills Beef Fest’s annual events designed to showcase the region's capability in producing high-quality beef and to encourage advancements in livestock management and meat production techniques. The awards not only recognize individual achievements but also highlight the commitment of local ranchers to excellence in the agricultural industry.
