Kansas Beef Council Supports Health Outreach

By Scout Nelson

In May, the Kansas Beef Council (KBC) enhanced its outreach efforts by introducing Beef in a Mediterranean Diet toolkit to healthcare professionals. This campaign was timed with both Beef Month and Mediterranean Diet Month, aiming to showcase how lean beef supports a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Each toolkit included Mediterranean-style beef recipes, simple handouts for patients on including beef in their diets, and a research booklet summarizing major studies funded by the beef checkoff. These studies confirm lean beef’s positive role in cardiometabolic health.

By working with multiple state beef councils, KBC helped distribute 665 toolkits in 14 states. These materials are estimated to reach around 66,500 patients and clients, delivering clear, science-based nutritional guidance to support health-conscious decisions.

Beyond the toolkit, KBC hosted a continuing education webinar for over 50 retail dietitians. The session covered the evolving nutrient profile of beef, addressing changing consumer preferences. It also educated dietitians on choosing beef cuts that are budget-friendly, easy to prepare, and ideal for portion control.

The webinar emphasized that lean beef fits well within modern dietary habits and supports overall wellness as a rich source of high-quality protein, iron, and essential vitamins.

“These efforts continue to showcase how producer investments in the beef checkoff are working to grow demand by equipping health professionals with credible, science-based resources, making beef a trusted and relevant part of their patient recommendations.”

Through this educational initiative, KBC strengthens the connection between producers and health professionals, ensuring accurate and useful information about beef reaches those influencing dietary decisions. This work helps keep beef relevant in evolving health conversations.
