Kansas Farm Bureau (KFB) has announced the winners of the 2025 Rural Minds Matter Advocate of the Year awards. The program, now in its second year, honors Kansans showing outstanding dedication to mental health advocacy in rural areas.
The awards highlight the importance of leaders who work to improve awareness, reduce stigma, and create lasting support systems for mental health in farming communities. Access to mental health resources is often limited in rural regions, making advocacy efforts crucial for community well-being.
"We are proud to recognize the dedication of those working to break the stigma surrounding mental health in rural areas," says Joe Newland, KFB president. "Their efforts are instrumental in fostering awareness, support and change, and we are honored to celebrate their contributions."
The Above 35 Advocate of the Year award recognized a community health leader who has built strong outreach networks through training programs and educational initiatives. These efforts have strengthened awareness and provided valuable support to families across Kansas.
“Sarah’s leadership has brought together hospitals, ag organizations and local communities to address the unique stresses facing farm families,” Newland says. “Her work ensures critical resources are available where they are most needed.”
The Young Advocate of the Year award celebrated a precision agriculture instructor for openly addressing personal experiences and promoting mental health awareness. His published writings and outreach activities have encouraged conversations across the agricultural sector.
“I’ve always felt led to speak up and advocate,” Eisenbarth says. “Life has given me this opportunity and placed me here — I need to use my God-given talents in this space.”
Award recipients will be recognized at major KFB events and featured in organizational publications. They also receive financial support to continue their advocacy efforts. The Rural Minds Matter program remains focused on partnerships that improve access to mental health resources in rural Kansas.
Applications for the 2026 Advocate of the Year awards will open in May.
