Kansas Fields Report Strong Corn Conditions

As of the week ending June 15, 2025, Kansas experienced five suitable days for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Moisture levels remain stable with topsoil rated 4% very short, 15% short, 65% adequate, and 16% surplus. Subsoil moisture was 8% very short, 19% short, 62% adequate, and 11% surplus.

Winter wheat progress continues slowly this season. Only 3% of the crop has been harvested, compared to 25% last year and an 11% average. Coloring reached 88%, behind last year’s 97%, but near the five-year average of 86%. 

Wheat maturity reached 39%, well behind 73% from last year and 44% on average. Crop condition rated 8% very poor, 13% poor, 30% fair, 42% good, and 7% excellent.

Corn planting is nearly complete at 96%, close to the 97% average. Emergence stood at 88%, just behind the 91% average. Silking started at 1%, in line with the previous year. Corn conditions remain positive at 1% very poor, 4% poor, 31% fair, 50% good, and 14% excellent.

Soybeans are 82% planted, near both last year and the five-year average. Emergence was at 69%, close to average. The soybean condition is strong, with only 2% rated very poor and 9% rated excellent.

Sorghum planting stood at 57%, behind the 70% last year and 66% average.

Cotton is 92% planted, close to average. Squaring reached 2%, behind the 10% average. Cotton condition rated 2% very poor, 19% poor, 40% fair, 36% good, and 3% excellent.

Sunflower planting is 56% behind last year but near the average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2% very poor, 9% poor, 28% fair, 47% good, and 14% excellent.
