The Kansas-Oklahoma Arkansas River Commission (KOARC) will hold its 60th annual meeting on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will take place in the Sedgwick Room at the K-State Research and Extension – Sedgwick County Education Center, located at 7001 W 21st Street N, Wichita, Kansas
The meeting is open to the public and will also be livestreamed on the Kansas Department of Agriculture's Division of Water Resources YouTube channel. Anyone interested in water-related activities within the lower Arkansas River basin in Kansas and Oklahoma is encouraged to attend the meeting or watch the livestream.
The Kansas-Oklahoma Arkansas River Compact was established in 1965 to promote interstate comity, equitably divide and promote the orderly development of the waters of the lower Arkansas River basin, provide an agency for administering the waters of the basin, and encourage an active pollution abatement program in each state.
The Governors of Oklahoma and Kansas appoint three Commissioners each, making up the KOARC leadership team. The President of the United States appoints a federal representative to chair the Commission.
The upcoming annual meeting provides an opportunity for the public to learn more about KOARC's activities and to provide input on water management issues in the lower Arkansas River basin.
