Kansas recorded a significant increase in milk production during October 2024, reaching 368 million pounds. This marks a 4% rise compared to October 2023, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The average number of milk cows in the state during October 2024 was 183,000 head, an increase of 8,000 head from the same month in 2023. This growth in herd size contributed significantly to the rise in total milk production.
Additionally, milk production per cow also saw an improvement, averaging 2,010 pounds for the month. This highlights the efficiency gains in dairy farming practices across Kansas, contributing to overall production growth.
These statistics reflect the state’s growing dairy industry, showcasing the combined impact of expanded herd sizes and enhanced productivity per animal. The consistent improvements emphasize Kansas' role in meeting national milk demand through efficient dairy operations.
