Nine Percent of Kansas Corn Silking



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 16% very short, 27% short, 52% adequate, and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 18% very short, 24% short, 53% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 16% very poor, 23% poor, 32% fair, 26% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat coloring was 97%, equal to both last year and the fiveyear average. Mature was 86%, ahead of 80% both last year and average. Harvested was 59%, well ahead of 37% last year, and ahead of 40% average.

Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 10% poor, 30% fair, 48% good, and 11% excellent. Corn emerged was 96%, near 98% both last year and average. Silking was 9%, near 7% last year, and equal to average.

Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 30% fair, 57% good, and 8% excellent. Soybeans planted was 92%, near 94% both last year and average. Emerged was 82%, near 85% last year and 86% average. Blooming was 1%, behind 13% last year and 7% average.

Sorghum condition rated 3% very poor, 5% poor, 38% fair, 50% good, and 4% excellent. Sorghum planted was 87%, behind 93% last year, and near 91% average. Headed was 2%, equal to average.

Cotton condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 57% fair, 39% good, and 1% excellent. Cotton squaring was 28%, equal to last year, and ahead of 19% average.

Sunflowers planted was 77%, behind 87% last year and 84% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 12% very poor, 15% poor, 29% fair, 40% good, and 4% excellent.
